Getting started
Install and activate QLA Voice
You'll need your licence key, which we email to you after purchase. One key works in both the Chrome extension and the Excel add-in.
Chrome extension (online marksheets)
The Chrome extension is waiting for approval on the Chrome Web Store. As soon as it's listed, we'll email customers the link. You won't need any technical steps to install it.
Used on Google Chrome on macOS (Chrome 116 or later). Not yet tested on Windows, ChromeOS or named assessment websites.
Excel add-in (Excel workbooks)
The Excel add-in is installed for staff by a school's IT team, from the Microsoft 365 admin centre. It then appears on Excel's Home tab as QLA Voice. Before you buy for Excel, check your IT team can add it.
If you're the IT team (Microsoft 365 global or Exchange administrator):
- Open the Microsoft 365 admin centre and go to Settings › Integrated apps.
- Choose Upload custom apps. For the app type, choose Office Add-in.
- Choose Provide link to manifest file and enter
https://addin.qlavoice.co.uk/manifest.xml. Press Validate. - Choose who gets it (the teachers named on the licence, a group, or everyone), then Deploy.
It can take up to 24 hours to appear in Excel. Teachers then open Home › QLA Voice. Speech is recognised on the device: no audio, marks or pupil data leave the workbook. Questions: qlavoice@outlook.com.
Download the add-in file (manifest)
For IT teams who prefer Upload manifest file (.xml) from device in step 3. It's the same file as the link above.
If you're a teacher: send your IT team a link to this page.
Tested on: Excel for Mac (Microsoft 365), Excel for Windows (Microsoft 365). Excel on the web hasn't been tested yet.
Activate
- Open QLA Voice (the side panel in Chrome, or Home › QLA Voice in Excel).
- Under Activate QLA Voice, paste the licence key from your email. It starts with
QLAV1.It doesn't matter if your email split it over several lines. - Press Activate. You'll see Licensed to your name and the date it's valid until.
QLA Voice remembers your licence on that computer. If a key won't activate, check you copied all of it, or email qlavoice@outlook.com.
