QLA Voice – Privacy Policy

Applies to the QLA Voice browser extension (Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge), the QLA Voice add-in for Microsoft Excel, and the QLA Voice website. Last updated: 4 October 2026.

Who we are

QLA Voice is provided by Owen Brazier, trading as QLA Voice, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we"). We are the data controller for the purchase and licence records described below. Contact: qlavoice@outlook.com. Our postal address is in our terms of sale, section 1.

In short

Speech is recognised on your own computer. QLA Voice does not send your audio, what it hears, or the marks you enter to us or to anyone else. The marks go into your own spreadsheet or online marksheet, which saves them as it normally would. We do not use analytics or advertising.

International transfers

Our website host (Netlify), payment processor (Stripe) and email provider (Microsoft) may process data in the United States. Each relies on the safeguards in its own data processing terms for transfers from the UK (such as the UK-US data bridge or the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses).

Lawful basis

QLA Voice's processing on your device is done for you, to provide the tool you have chosen to use. Hosting logs are processed in our legitimate interests in running and securing the service. Purchase and licence data is processed to perform our contract and to meet legal obligations, as set out above.

Schools and pupils' data

QLA Voice is a tool for teachers and is not intended for use by children. Pupils' marks stay in the school's own spreadsheet or assessment system. The school remains the data controller for them, and QLA Voice does not give us access to them. Your marksheet may contain pupils' names; QLA Voice only reads the cells or boxes described above, on your computer, and sends nothing to us. A data-flow description for schools' data protection impact assessments is available on request.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of personal data we hold about you (in practice, purchase and licence records), ask us to restrict its use or to give it to you in a portable format, and you can object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Some of these rights have legal limits (for example, we must keep purchase records for tax purposes). We don't make automated decisions about you. Contact qlavoice@outlook.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ins

QLA Voice's use of information is designed to meet the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and Microsoft Edge Add-ins policies. We do not sell data, use it for advertising, or transfer it to third parties.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
